Washington, DC
Located at the intersection of 17th Street and Columbia Road
in Northwest, Washington, DC. 1700 Columbia Road has been designed to provide 80 residential units and 9,000 GSF of retail.
The project location is the site of the Ontario Theater that dates back to 1951. TEG has worked with the community and the development team to preserve and incorporate certain art deco elements from the theater, including a corner canopy, poster cases, and the attractions signs; ensuring the building will be contextual but contemporary, an appropriate addition to the neighborhood that’s still clearly of today. The proposed design draws on Adams Morgan’s rich architectural history of art deco residential blocks, while distinguishing itself with contemporary features that speak to newer, industrial-styled buildings.
